URSA obtains certification for its energy management system following the ISO 50001:2018 Standard
One of the most important benefits of this standard has been the redefinition and implementation of new energy efficiency criteria in its production activities. The Energy Efficiency strategy will continue to add initiatives in the first quarter of 2023.

As part of its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, URSA has been improving the manufacturing processes of its materials and continuously reducing energy consumption at its two plants in Pla de Santa Maria (Tarragona). This work has now culminated in the implementation an Energy Management System following the international standard ISO 50001:2018.
Thanks to the application of this standard, new energy efficiency criteria have been defined and implemented in the production activities carried out in the glass mineral wool and extruded polystyrene factories.
For Miquel Tena, Site Manager of the mineral wool and extruded polystyrene factories of URSA Ibérica Aislantes S.A., "there are many advantages to implementing an Energy Management System following this standard. In addition to improving energy efficiency, it reduces environmental impacts, particularly CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Moreover, this efficient use of energy results in significant savings when energy prices are soaring".
URSA has been advised by the specialised consultancy MAO Consulting to obtain this certificate, which allows the company to comply with energy legislation and encourage the use of renewable energies. Thanks to their advice, the company has defined the Significant Energy Uses, the most appropriate Energy Performance Indicators, and their monitoring through the defined Energy Baselines.
"It has not been easy, but we have finally managed to integrate this Energy Management System so that the energy criteria have been merged in the productive activities we carry out. Moreover, we have seen that as we have improved our energy efficiency in our plants and manufacturing processes, our reputation for sustainability has also grown. Our customers and collaborators increasingly appreciate this, " explains Tena.
This action will complement new initiatives in the first quarter of 2023 that will consolidate the company's energy culture. "We have defined energy efficiency improvement targets for the coming years that we hope to achieve continuously. Each of the successes we achieve is due to the efforts of all the teams involved in making our activities more efficient every day", concludes Miquel Tena.
