URSA is committed to renewable energies with the installation of photovoltaic plants at its factories in Tarragona.

The plants will have nearly 7,000 state-of-the-art photovoltaic panels on their roofs, which will provide the annual energy equivalent to the consumption of 1,515 homes.

URSA is committed to renewable energies with the installation of photovoltaic plants at its factories in Tarragona.

URSA reaffirms its commitment to the sustainability of its manufacturing processes with the installation, in the coming months, of a 3.829 MWp photovoltaic solar plant that will produce energy for its own self-consumption.

The company will install in its two factories (XPS and glass mineral wool) in Pla de Santa Maria (Tarragona) about 7,000 photovoltaic panels of the latest generation that will occupy 2.44 and a half hectares of land and will provide the annual energy equivalent to the consumption of 1,515 homes and save 1,320 tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to those that would neutralize 3,415 trees.

Enértika, a company specialized in the creation of photovoltaic installations, will be in charge of this facility, which is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2023. This company will operate and manage this renewable energy project for the next 15 years, through an on-site renewable electricity sales agreement (physical PPA). After this time, the entire facility and the energy it generates will become the property of URSA.

"We are very pleased to start this project hand in hand with such an experienced company as Enertika," says Ramón Ros, General Manager URSA Ibérica Aislantes. "With their advice and support, we will reaffirm our commitment to clean and renewable energies which, together with our insulation materials, are the fundamental tools to achieve the decarbonization of our building stock".

Saving energy and, above all, reducing polluting emissions are part of URSA's commitments under its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) program.

In line with the objectives of the parent company, ETEX Group, the first of these challenges is to reduce URSA's global emissions by 35% by 2030 and to significantly reduce its environmental footprint. In addition, with the installation of this photovoltaic solar plant, 13% of the annual consumption of the two Tarragona factories will be generated.

For URSA's general manager, "when objectives of this caliber are set, we have to look for tools that allow us to meet them. We don't want sustainability strategies to be empty pieces of paper that remain in a drawer. Our commitment to sustainability is firm and we want to demonstrate it day after day," concludes Ramón Ros.
