Our mission

Our mission

At URSA, we work to be the preferred energy savings and acoustic comfort partner in the construction business for glass mineral wool and extruded polystyrene (XPS), driven by commercial excellence, the most efficient supply chain and the passion of our team.

A bright future for insulation

Europe is a world leader and benchmark in energy efficiency, thanks to a high awareness of environmental protection as well as energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness in buildings.

While the future might be challenging, it is also full of opportunities. As specified in the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) recast, as of beginning December 2020 all new buildings must be nearly zero-energy buildings (nZEBs). And this superior level of energy performance in a building can only be achieved through substantial use of thermal insulation.

Building renovation – a “must” with incredible potential

The incredible potential of building renovation is key to meeting the European plan of reducing CO2 emissions by 80% to 95% by 2050. URSA’s insulation products offer high-performance solutions, making the renovation of existing buildings to a nearly zero-energy standard possible.

Attaining European targets before 2050 will only be possible if Europe’s existing building stock is intensively renovated over the next few decades. New buildings account for only roughly 1% of total housing stock in Europe annually. Thus, increasing the building renovation rate to 2.5% or 3% per year should be Europe’s goal.

URSA is in the middle of the action, offering an excellent solution – high-performance insulation materials and services to our customers – to achieve the nearly zero-energy goal.

Working together

URSA's commitment to sustainability, and therefore the social, economic and environmental pillars of sustainability, is strongly rooted in the company. We do not plan our activities without a clear and determined approach towards sustainable development. On one hand, all URSA regions work in the manufacture of materials that provide greater sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental protection to the buildings in which they are installed. Providing our services in a sustainable manner is also of utmost importance when working together with our partners, customers, installers and specifiers. On the other hand, URSA continuously supports all those initiatives that encourage and work towards the consolidation of a sustainable building sector and the active renovation of buildings.

URSA´s focus on customer proximity

URSA´s focus on customer proximity

At URSA we constantly work to improve our glass mineral wool and extruded polystyrene (XPS) product offer. We focus on listening to our customers and partners to understand which services help them make day-to-day business easier and solve operational problems. We try to be very close to our partners to:
  • Be as responsive and flexible as possible.
  • Provide simple and helpful solutions.
  • Offer support in the ordering process.
  • Provide logistics services tailored to each order.
  • Discuss system solutions to make their work life easier.
  • Offer marketing and training services to help them better explain and sell to their partners.
  • Offer support for complex insulation situations.
We have received very positive feedback from independent studies regarding our services and customer centricity, and we continue to strive towards excellence. Please liaise with the relevant country organization to discuss any possible questions. We want to learn how to serve you even better.

Associations we cooperate with

URSA collaborates with entities, associations, educational institutions and organizations throughout Europe in relation to environmental protection and sustainability in the building and construction trade. We are conscious that it is necessary to provide support to all agents in the sector who work with objectives in line with our own. As a result of these synergies, URSA collaborates with the following associations:
Eurima is the European Insulation Manufacturers Association and represents the mineral wool industry throughout Europe. It was established in 1959 to promote improved standards and regulations for the use of insulation materials. More recently, it has developed to reflect the growing environmental concerns of society. Eurima has been at the forefront of the influencers asking for and contributing to the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) in Europe. URSA has been a member of Eurima since 2002 and is part of all its committees. Together with the rest of the associates, we work on scientific evidence as a basis for a better policy with regards to energy efficiency, climate change and the comfort and health of end users.
Exiba stands for the European Extruded Polystyrene Insulation Board Association. It is a trade association whose main objective is to transmit the benefits and defend the position of XPS using scientific evidence for the benefit of end users and society in general. URSA has been a member of Exiba since 2002. We hold a vice-chair position in the association’s Steering Group and also participate in a number of sub-committees and working groups. The member companies together promote the use of XPS in the most challenging applications as well as carry out joint projects, for example an industry-wide Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for XPS.
URSA has been collaborating with Efficient Buildings Europe since 2008 and shares with this European association the objective of helping the EU move towards a more efficient use of energy in buildings. Of the key dimensions of the Energy Union (which aims to provide secure, competitive, affordable energy to European citizens), energy efficiency is the number one solution for the EU to achieve its goals in relation to energy security, economic competitiveness and sustainability. Efficient Buildings Europe is committed to helping the EU deliver better-performing buildings, with a view to achieving by 2050 at EU level a building stock of nearly zero-energy performance.
Renovate Europe is a political communication campaign with the aim of reducing the energy demand of the EU’s building stock by 80% by 2050 through legislation and ambitious renovation programs. Accelerating the rate of renovation is a key tool in the fight against climate change, and will deliver major benefits for people and their quality of life as well as the economy. The campaign was launched in 2011 and URSA is a founding member. We have also been collaborating with other member companies in developing the narratives and implementing the actions of the Renovate Europe Campaign.
The World Green Building Council (WGBC) is a global network of Green Building Councils that is transforming the places where we live, work, play, heal and learn. The goal is to help reduce the building and construction sector’s CO2 emissions by 84 gigatons and ensure that all buildings have net zero emissions by 2050. WGBC believes that green buildings can and must be at the center of our lives. URSA has been collaborating since 2008 with the Green Building Councils of certain European countries. In some cases, such as GBC Spain, we were one of the founding members that promoted its creation and consolidation. In addition, URSA was one of the main sponsors of the WGBC World Sustainable Building Congress, which took place in Barcelona in 2014 and brought together the main global agents in the sector. We have also supported projects and concrete initiatives such as the Spanish Working Group for Buildings Rehabilitation (GTR) and the BUILD UPON international project.
